Why a competition says it is preparing tickets
When you save a competition, your site makes every ticket number for it in the background. Until that is finished, the competition cannot go on sale. This guide explains what you will see and what it means.
Before you start
- You do not need to do anything for this to happen. It starts by itself when you save.
What you will see
- When you create the competition, a message says "Ticket pool generation started".
- Under the competition's name on its edit page, you will see one of these notes:
- Making the ticket pool (x%). It is still working. A progress card on the page shows how far along it is, and says the competition cannot be published until it is complete.
- Ticket pool ready (N tickets). It is finished. The competition can go on sale.
- Ticket pool creation failed. Something went wrong. See If it fails.
- Ticket pool not created yet. It has not started.
The "ticket pool" is the full set of ticket numbers for the competition.
When it happens again
- If you raise Total tickets, you see "Ticket pool extension started" while the new numbers are made.
- If you lower Total tickets (only possible when nothing has sold), the pool is rebuilt. The competition is off your site until it is ready.
How long does it take?
It depends on how many tickets the competition has. The progress card shows how far along it is.
If it fails
Reload the competition page and check the note again. If it still says Ticket pool creation failed, contact Raffinity. Do not put the competition on sale.
What your customers will see
- A competition whose tickets are not ready does not go on sale.
- After a customer pays, their tickets are also allocated in the background. For a moment they see "Allocating your tickets", then "Tickets secured!".
Tips
- Create and save competitions a little ahead of time, so the tickets are ready before your start time.

Common questions
Can I edit the competition while it is preparing tickets? You can open it, but you cannot publish it until the tickets are ready.
Why can I not lower Total tickets? Because the tickets are still being prepared, or because tickets have sold. See Create a competition.
